The important dates of Le Chaînon

Tune in the radio broadcast produced by Radio-Canada.

1932 : Founding of the first shelter for young women, on Fairmount Street, in Montreal by Yvonne Maisonneuve, whose cousin, Father Marcel de la Sablonnière was himself the founder of the Immaculée-Conception Center.

1940 : Relocation to new facilities at 101 de La Gauchetière West and now welcoming older women in crisis as well.

1946 : Service is extended to include mothers with children.

1947 : Creation of a new service for young girls.

1955 : Inauguration of a service providing at-home assistance in Longueuil until its closing in 1988.

1956 : Relocation of the shelter for young girls to 6895 Boyer Street in Montreal.

1968 : Creation of an at-home assistance service in the Parish of Ste-Marguerite-Marie in Montreal.

1971 : Yvon Deschamps becomes the first spokesperson of Le Chaînon.

1974 : Expropriation from 101 de La Gauchetière Street.

1975 : The women's shelter reopens its doors at 4373 de l'Esplanade Avenue in Montreal. Also marks the hiring of salaried personnel and creation of Volunteer Service to meet the ever-growing needs.

1978 : New name : l'Institut Notre-Dame-de-la-Protection is now called l'Association d'entraide Le Chaînon inc.

1979 : All shelter services of Le Chaînon are now offered exclusively to women alone.

1987 : Opening of the overnight accommodation unit.

1987 : 60th Anniversary Festivities and unveiling of the new logo.

1993 : Opening of a new shelter, the Yvonne-Maisonneuve Residence.

1996 : Transfer of the overall management of Le Chaînon from the Corporation of the Associates to the Board of Directors elected every year by the general assembly.

1998 : Publication of the book "Le Chaînon, la maison de Montreal", that tells the story of the shelter since its creation (written by Sylvie Halpern, prefaced by Judi Richards et Yvon Deschamps).

2000 : A fire totally destroys the store Le Coffre aux Trésors du Chaînon. It later reopens on September 13, 2000 at its current location on Saint-Laurent Boulevard, Montreal.

2002 : 70th Anniversary Festivities and introduction of its new Web Site.

2003 : Inauguration of the new Maison Yvonne-Maisonneuve.

2004 : Arrival of Le Chaînon's new spokespersons, Sylvie Boucher et Serge Postigo..

2005 : Introduction of Prix-hommage Yvonne Maisonneuve.

2007 : 75th Anniversary of Le Chaînon.

2009 : Bernard Fortin becomes the spokesperson of Le Chaînon.

2009 : Recipient of the prix Hommage bénévolat-Québec - Category Organization in Action
